Literacy Intervention and Personal Connections

One of my greatest joys in education is helping students discover a love of reading after previously claiming to dislike it. By taking the time to understand students' interests and learning preferences, I've been able to create breakthrough moments in literacy development. For example, I helped a student grasp sentence structure by having her diagram lyrics from songs she loved, transforming a traditionally dry exercise into an engaging activity with personal relevance.
In another instance, I helped a student understand complex philosophical concepts in the trolley experiment by connecting it to themes in one of her favorite movies. These personalized approaches demonstrate my commitment to student-centered learning. While this tailored instruction requires additional preparation and creativity, the results—students who become enthusiastic, self-motivated learners—are well worth the investment of time and effort.
